YG Entertainment’s first quarter profits for 2016 have set a record high for the company, reaffirming their status as one of Korea’s top entertainment agencies.
Published on May 11, YG Entertainment’s profits for the first quarter total 9.48 billion won (approximately $8 million), a record high since the company’s establishment in 1996. This marks an increase of 32.6% compared to the same period in 2015. Also in the first quarter, gross sales figures mark an impressive 72.95 billion won (approximately $62.2 million) at an increase of 64.3% on last year’s figures. Domestic sales constitute 40% of the figures, with sales in Japan contributing 36%, and China making up 20%. With the majority of sales being made abroad, YG Entertainment’s prospects as a global enterprise seem bright. Considering BIGBANG’s recent world tour as well as full-scale promotions for WINNER and iKON, the company’s amazing success comes as no surprise to many. Source 1, SOOMPI YG's iKON’s 4 members: B.I, BOBBY, SONG YUNHYEONG, and KIM JINWHAN, shot photos for cover and interview of “DAZED” magazine. iKON who has recently achieved remarkable success for their Japan arena tour will soon expand their presence overseas by holding concerts in China. Plus, the team plans to perform in Korea with a new album soon. The photo-shooting lasted for longer than eight hours, but iKON members never looked tired. Top-notch staff including style director Jieun, photographer Hong Jang-hyun, hair designer Joo Hyung-sun, and makeup artist Won Jo-yeon created a new and creative look for iKON. After the end of the photo-shooting by four in the morning, iKON had an interview. iKON members talked about the strengths and weaknesses of each member, as well as iKON’s present and future. iKON said that their teamwork is really good, maybe because the members have blood type of A or O only. They also said that they are really proud of working at the same label YG with outstanding senior artists. iKON also mentioned their future goal of growing consistently and becoming the best artist to live up to their own expectations.
The photos and interview of iKON who is leading the next generation of Korea’s music scene are available in the May issue of “DAZED” Korea released on the 21 this month at on/off-line bookstore. Via: YG-LIFE iKON member Jinhwan shows how much the variety show “Mari and Me” has meant to him when he can’t hold back his tears during the finale. At the end of April 6’s final episode of “Mari and Me,” the guys talk about their experiences on the show and their feelings as they say goodbye. Seo In Guk says, “I thought it would be really hard to take care of the animals. It was the first time in my life doing something like that. But they always gave me as much as I gave them. I think I learned a lot while I took care of them.” Shim Hyung Tak comments that it was a period of healing for him, and he was really happy while filming. As the others talk about what they’ve learned from the show, Jinhwan is clearly trying to stop himself from crying. iKON’s B.I then says, “This was the first variety show for Jinhwan and me, and filming it was very healing for us. I hope that we can live in a world where animals and humans co-exist and feel close with each other, since we are all the same.” When it’s finally Jinhwan’s turn, he starts to speak, but then apologizes because he’s so choked up he can hardly talk. “I wasn’t going to cry,” he says. He tries to start talking again, but is too emotional to express himself. Seo In Guk reaches over to comfort him, and Shim Hyung Tak says sadly, “We’ve all become so close.” Jinhwan tearfully says, “It’s just so sad.” He then adds, “I hope that this show made everyone who watched it feel happy and gave them a time to heal. Thank you so much.” Watch the touching video below! © SOOMPI
iKON has proven themselves as a Hallyu trend leader.
The group has sold a total of 120,000 albums, including the group’s Japanese repackage album ‘WELCOME BACK – COMPLETE EDITION’, which was released on March 30 and their debut album ‘WELCOME BACK’, which was released on January 13, 2015 - an exceptional record as rookie artists. Together with original tracks from its debut album, ‘ANTHEM (remix), and the Japanese versions of ‘DUMB&DUMBER’, ‘WHAT’S WRONG?’, ‘I MISS YOU SO BAD’, ‘RHYTHM TA (remix)’ and the unpublished song ‘JUST GO’ were added to the repackage album. Even though the album was repackaged, it topped the largest Japanese music site Recochoku and iTunes after the album released. Moreover, the album ranked 4th in the Oricon daily album chart, further proving its great popularity. Previously, the group’s Japanese debut album topped the Oricon daily album chart in January and they successfully completed their Japan arena tour in five cities, for a total of 14 performances and drew audiences of 146,000 people from February to March. According to Japan’s biggest music-ranking website Oricon Style on the 30 this month, iKON’s debut album “WELCOME BACK” released in Japan took fourth place on Oricon’s daily album chart. “WELCOME BACK” was released in Japan on January 13 this year. It has been over 70 days since the release, but the album is still ranked in top places on Oricon chart. That fact itself is an astonishing record is the proof of the big popularity and big spotlight iKON is enjoying in Japan. The album showed an enormous potential that is unusual for a rookie, recording 50,000 sales on the very day of release. iKON already proved an exceptional level of recognition in the country by drawing 26,600 fans to total 12 events of fan meeting tour “iKON FAN MEETING 2015 IN JAPAN iKONTACT” last year, even before their official debut in Japan. Plus, recently, iKON successfully hosted Japan Arena tour that drew 146,000 fans to 14 concerts in five cities including Fukuoka. Notably, iKON stood under a big spotlight from local media for their concert held at Tokyo Budokan within 33 days of their official debut. Budokan is called the Mecca of concerts in Japan. At that time, iKON expressed their feelings about their first concert at Budokan, saying, “We thank our fans for enabling us to stand on the stage of Budokan this early. We’re really pleased to hold a concert at this historical place”. iKON is now kicking off their Asian tour going beyond Korea and Japan, within six months of their debut. That is the reason why music fans are paying keen attention to next moves of iKON who is writing a new history of K-pop music. © YG LIFE iKON is receiving great popularity by selling 120,000 albums in Japan.

Matured through many survival programs, YG’s new boy group, Ikon, had debuted with an un-rookie like aura. Also, B.I of Ikon, with his charismatic attitude became a capable producer, leader, and rapper was able to set out extraordinary results. iKON is a boy band that debuted last October. Through YG’s Survival program <Who’s Next:? WIN> and <Mix & Match>, and also the members of Ikon, Bobby and B.I, that participated in the survival show <Show Me The Money Season3> . Ikon had debuted with their names already known in the industry. Even with their debut album titled <Welcome Back>, you would think these boys have been in the industry as idols for years because they don’t show signs of being a rookie group. Seeing iKON’s concert in real life just reiterated what a cool and charismatic group they are and how much it would not make sense to compare them to an average group. However, since the editor had really high expectations for them, he had felt that many parts in the concert did not quite meet his expectations (but it’s also because they had debuted after BIGBANG, who have created such a big name for themselves) Nevertheless, even though the concert did completely meet his expectations, he was still contempt because of the team leader, also the producer, B.I’s positivity and tenacity to chase his goal. iKON, who were wrapping up their 1st half of the tour in late January, had once again performed at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena. In the 5 short months they had after debuting, the boys have been busy with broadcasts, promotions and concerts between Japan and South Korea, with the occasional fan meetings in China. The boys enjoy fan meetings because they get to talk with fans and meet them personally. Which also gives them motivation to put on great concerts for their fans. I was greedy with this interview because I had a lot of questions especially for B.I,.who is in the center of ikon’s change. How did you guys come this far, and what direction will you guys go from here on out? So during their Japan Tour when they came to Korea for a brief time in mid-February, I had met them.

iKON drew big attention when they took No.1 on Oricon daily albums chart on the day their debut album “WELCOME BACK” was released in Japan on January 13. Then, iKON hosted Arena tour to perform at Nippon Budokan within a month from then, on February 15. That made iKON set an unprecedented record as the foreign artist who debuted on the stage of Budokan within the shortest period of time since debut in Japan. The concert hall was filled with the heated atmosphere of 13,000 fans from even before the beginning. iKON appeared on the stage with enthusiastic acclamation from fans. iKON fascinated the audience by presenting passionate performances of the songs included in “WELCOME BACK” album, including “RHYTHM TA”, “MY TYPE”, “AIRPLANE”, and “APOLOGY”, as well as the songs they released before debut, such as “Sinosijak” and “Wait For Me”. iKON expressed their gratitude for their first concert at Budokan, saying, “We thank our fans for making us stand on this stage this soon. We’re really happy to have a concert at this place where we can feel the history”. iKON kicked off their Japan arena tour on February 11 at Fukuoka International Center. Then, the tour goes on at Nippon Budokan on February 15 and 16 and then at Kobe World Memorial Hall on February 20 and 21. It continues to Makuhari Messe Event Hall on the 12 and 13 next month and Osakajyo Hall on the 15 next month, to draw total 146,000 fans to 14 concerts held in five cities. On March 30, iKON’s new album “WELCOME BACK – COMPLETE EDITION” will be released. The album will include Japanese versions of “DUMB&DUMBER”, “WHAT’S WRONG?” “I MISS YOU SO BAD”, and “RHYTHM TA”(ROCK VER.). Plus, a remix version of “ANTHEM” in original Japanese version will also be included in the album. iKON successfully rounded off their second concert “iKONCERT 2016 SHOWTIME TOUR” on the 30 and 31 last month at Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul. iKON will hold concert again in Daegu on February 27 and in Busan on March 5, to meet fans who could not come to the Seoul concert. 2016. 2. 16. © YG LIFE |
